Dry Rot Timber Treatment

Dry rot is caused by a wood destroying fungi called Serpula Lacrymans. It is one of the most serious types of fungal decay in buildings because it spreads very quickly through cracks, brickwork and masonry, destroying the timber used in properties.

Dry rot occurs when excessive moisture or damp is inside timber with a moisture content above 20%. Some common causes of damp timber are rising damp, poor ventilation, penetrating damp and leaking showers etc.

Some signs of dry rot:

Wet Rot Timber Treatment

Wet rot is a type of fungal decay that occurs more frequently but it is less damaging because it stays confined to the damp timber area and cannot spread through masonry. The most common type of wet rot is called Coniophora Puteana or Poria vaillantii and occurs in timber with high moisture levels of 30%-60%. If left untreated it can lead to the structural timber of the property to weaken and therefore cause the major structure of the property to become damaged.
